About

Fern Ceramics are made by Kim Winston, a ceramic artist originally from Ireland and now based in North Vancouver, BC. Inspired by the modern forms and compositions from her architectural design background, along with a passion for the beautiful mountains, forest, and ocean where she lives, Kim creates functional handmade ceramics with natural textures, shapes, and tones. Her hope is that the carefully considered designs bring a sense of calm into people’s home – providing comfort and moments of joy in everyday tasks.

Fern Ceramics are made in small batches using stoneware clay. Primarily wheel thrown with elements of hand-building and carving, they are finished in durable food-safe glazes in soft neutral tones.

Working out of her home studio and local community space, Fern Ceramics is based in the traditional territories of the Tsleil-Waututh, Musqueum, and Squamish Nations. Kim brings the intention of creating work inspired by these lands - an exploration of balance between human-made and natural forms. As part of a commitment to sustainable small business practices, materials are sourced from North America and care is taken to reclaim/recycle all clay as well as the use sustainable packing materials.
